BE COOL
Review by Michael French
Chili Palmer is back, and this time he’s moved from movies to music.  In the anticipated sequel to
the comedy hit, “Get Shorty,” John Travolta reprises his role as the cool shylock Palmer.

Unlike most sequels, this follow-up to the former favorite is actually intelligent, entertaining and a
meaningful addition to Palmer’s ongoing story.

While Travolta delivers a great performance, it is the fresh faces that bring life to “Be Cool.”
Cedric the Entertainer plays a gangster rap agent, Uma Thurman is the widow of a music label
mogul, Vince Vaughn is the sleazy music agent who thinks he’s a gangster, and The Rock steals
the film as a gay wannabe actor and singer vying for Palmer’s attention.

In the film, Palmer wants to leave the film business and inadvertently winds up in the music biz
when Russian mobsters wax his buddy played by James Woods.

From there it’s a rollercoaster ride of off-beat comedy, misadventures, and great characters
including a hilarious group of rappers who call themselves the “WMDs.”

The film even sports an extended cameo by Aerosmith singer Steve Tyler.

There are a few slow moments, but nothing to cry over.  This is easily one of the most original films
of the season thus far.  Don’t miss this one.  It’s pure entertainment from beginning to end.
